Design Philosophy

My goals on all projects are to work closely with the client to produce creative design solutions that meet their functional needs, spatial requirements and the construction budget. All facets of the project will be considered from start to finish, including specific client requirements, project context, sustainable (or “green”) design features, site features, views, solar orientation, zoning restraints, etc. The added challenge on addition and alteration work is to seamlessly integrate the new building features with the existing structure. I have an extensive amount of experience on these project types.

Design Capabilities

Over the past 23 years, I have been the Lead Architect on various projects, many of which required coordination with professional consultants including, structural engineers, mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineers, surveyors, civil engineers, landscape architects and interior designers. I am able to deliver projects requiring these multiple disciplines through my network of professional consultants.

Through direct interaction with local municipalities I have been able to successfully guide projects through the various applicable permitting stages including variances, site plan approvals, historic district approvals and building permit approvals among others.

Having lived and worked in the Baltimore region for over ten years, I have become familiar with the local building and zoning code requirements. I also possess an in depth knowledge of the building codes adopted by the State of Maryland including the International Building Code (IBC), International Residential Code (IRC), International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), International Existing Building Code (IEBC) and the Maryland Accessibility Code (MAC). I routinely attend seminars to keep up to date with these codes.

I have also trained in the following “Green” building programs; LEED / Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and the ICC-700, National Green Building Standard. I have attained the title of “LEED Green Associate”.
